Letting go of distractions

A major challenge to traveling light is being distracted. This world is not our home, but boy is this world distracting.

Hebrews 13:14

God wants us to let go of the distractions of this world because the stakes are so very high. When I’m speaking on Sundays I understand that some find it difficult to not get distracted. I know what you’re thinking, I am such a brilliant preacher than nobody would ever get distracted while I’m speaking. However, here is a picture of our audience from last Sunday.

A couple of Sundays ago I had a hidden camera in church. Check out this YouTube video showing one of the people in my church.

Distraction is defined as a pulling apart, separating, a drawing of the mind in different directions. And here is the most important point, the devil doesn’t have to destroy you if he can distract you!

Luke 10:38-42 tells us the story of Mary and Martha. Jesus is traveling and come to the home of Mary and Martha and is a guest in their home. Martha was working hard feeding everybody and taking care of the gas. Mari on the other hand, is sitting at Jesus’s feet just listening. After this goes on for a while, Martha can’t take it anymore. She goes to Jesus and exclaims,

Every family seems to have that person. If you don’t think so, that person could be you. The good is the enemy of the great.

Satan does not have to get you to commit some incredible sin to destroy the call of God on your life. All he has to do is get you distracted.

Best of the best
God’s purpose and coffee your life requires you to push towards the best of the best! That means diminishing the distractions of this world to focus on the important eternal things. 1 Corinthians 7:35 tells us to serve the Lord with as few distractions as possible. We are the most distractive human beings that I’ve ever existed on planet earth. With all of our mobile devices we can be titillated and entertained constantly. We don’t have any patients with boredom. It all comes down to one incredible truth that if we put God first everything else takes care of itself. Matthew 6: 33

We put him first

The first thing I do in the morning is focus on talking to God and studying his word.

The first day of the week I dedicate to him and go to church.

The first fruits of my labor are given to God. I tired before I pay any other bills and have for my whole life.

The first month of the year I take time to focus pray and fast to serve God the best I can and that year.

Mary sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he talked in Luke 10:39. I will always work hard to serve Jesus but never want to forget to prioritize just being with him and enjoying his grace love and acceptance of me. I hope you get to experience that as well.
