How to read the Bible

Reading the Bible is more than scanning words on a page—it’s entering into a living conversation with God. Begin with prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit to guide your understanding and speak through the text. Start with a translation that’s easy for you to grasp, and consider reading a book like John or Psalms if you’re just beginning. Take your time; reflect on what the passage reveals about God, about humanity, and about your own life. Use tools like study notes, devotionals, or Bible reading plans to stay grounded and consistent. Most importantly, read with an open heart, allowing the Scriptures to challenge, comfort, and transform you from the inside out.

We do not judge

While we are not perfect in this regard, the one comment people say about us most often is that they never feel judged. We teach that sin is bad and look to the Bible to define sin. But we do it with a sense of humility and tenderness. The one thing we do best is preach the truth in a context of unconditional love. If your life doesn’t look at all like the Christian life that the Bible teaches, you can belong here while being encouraged to become more and more like Jesus every day.

Women are not discriminated against

At the Rock we believe women are equally capable of preaching and leadership as men.

You can belong before you believe

Our motto—which we love to put on signs and t-shirts—is “at the Rock you belong before you believe.” We believe that we can love and respect people without having to agree. So, even if you don’t believe in God at all, we would like to have you as part of our family. We trust God to reveal himself to you through the preaching and the way we live our lives.

Church in a movie theater

If you like comfortable chairs and nice large cup holders for your coffee, you’re going to enjoy church in a movie theater. If stairs are difficult for you—we do not have a single step. We have room for wheelchairs and if you have ever struggled to hear the preacher preaching, our sound system is awesome. While other churches will give you coffee and donuts, I don’t know of anybody else who is providing fresh-popped movie theater popcorn.
