AG Scholars Forum Held at Vanguard University

The inaugural AG Scholars Forum, held at Vanguard University, brought together 50 Assemblies of God scholars from across the United States in an unprecedented gathering aimed at strengthening the Fellowship through scholarly inclusion. Organized by national leaders of the General Council, the Alliance for AG Higher Education, and academic participants, the event featured general sessions and breakout discussions that explored how the gifts of scholars could better serve the church at large. The forum created space for collaboration, inspiration, and the sharing of ideas that reach beyond the classroom and into the life of the church.

Leaders such as Allen Tennison and General Superintendent Doug Clay emphasized the importance of utilizing scholarly expertise not just for academic purposes, but for enriching church life and advancing the Great Commission. Their hope was to bridge the gap between scholarship and ministry, highlighting the value of biblical research in shaping spiritual formation and practical theology. Paul Alexander, representing the Alliance for AG Higher Education, emphasized the historic role of church scholars as reformers and communicators of truth—roles still vital today.

Speakers and attendees alike found the experience meaningful and affirming. With contributions from key figures such as George P. Wood, Elly Marroquin, and Jay Mooney, the sessions tackled ways to build partnerships, publish academic resources, and foster discipleship through theological engagement. Attendee Daniel Isgrigg expressed gratitude for the opportunity to use his research to serve the church, a dream shared by many AG scholars. The forum marked a significant step toward integrating academic calling with spiritual mission.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the first AG Lifetime Scholar Award to Cecil M. Robeck Jr., a renowned Pentecostal historian and long-time AG minister. His decades of scholarship and mentorship have inspired a generation of AG academics. Looking ahead, the next AG Scholars Forum is scheduled for June 8–9, 2026, with plans to expand on this initiative and develop new resources through Logion Press. Leaders expressed deep gratitude for what began at this historic forum, viewing it as a pivotal movement toward a more connected, Kingdom-minded scholarly community within the Assemblies of God.
